About Pilsen Open Studios
In 2004, the Chicago Office of Fine Arts-Dept. of Cultural Affairs asked Hector Duarte, an established muralist, painter, and print maker if he would be interested in opening his studio to the general public during the month of October; designated as Chicago’s artist month. Hector in his generous and familiar way responded by saying that he had an entire community around of artists and neighbors who were potentially as gifted and interesting to visit. And so with the city’s blessing, Hector and his wife Linda Lutton helped organize us into a cohesive group that were already connected socially, many of us being friends for many years. As the seasoned artists began to collaborate with the emerging, we began what would be an annual artist-run event known as the 18th Street Pilsen Open Studios.
