This October, a collection of over 50 artists’ studios, alternative spaces, galleries, and cafes from around the Pilsen neighborhood will gather once again to host one of the city’s largest independently-produced open studios.
The 9th annual 18th Street Pilsen Open Studios, one of the premiere events of the citywide Chicago Artists Month, will feature the work of more than 80 artists residing in the Pilsen area, as well as other local, national, and international artists invited to exhibit at select galleries.
Last year, over 4,000 people descended onto Pilsen to enjoy a family-friendly celebration of art, culture and community.
Special events include mural walks led by artist Jose Guerrero, free Dia de Los Muertos workshops co-hosted by Colibri Studio/Gallery and Pros Arts Studio, and as a showcase of local youth talent, Pilsen-based CPS schools will be exhibiting student artwork at Juarez Community Academy.
Another event will be the Pilsen Soundtrack 2 CD Release Party on Saturday, October 15 at the APO Community Arts & Cultural Center (1436 W. 18th St.). A compilation CD and arts booklet featuring 14 Pilsen-based artists and musical acts ranging from hip-hop, reggae, bomba, and classical music, the event will serve as the Official After-Party for Pilsen 18th St. Open Studios.
Pilsen Open Studios is part of Chicago Artists Month 2011, the sixteenth annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant visual art community presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture.
